Have you ever met someone and right off the bat you felt like you already know them, like as if you have known each other from another lifetime? If you have ever had the joy of this experience, you probably think back to it fondly and have memories from this interaction that trigger a strong emotional response in you. It probably hit your like a tornado of love and you had no idea what was happening except that it was some type of divine pairing.

Twin Flames and Soul Mates have been used interchangeably in the past so we want to clear up the differences between a Twin Flame and Soul Mate Union before we go any further.

What is a Twin Flame?

A Twin Flame, defined by as “literally the other half of our soul. We each have only one twin, and generally after being split the two went their separate ways, incarnating over and over to gather human experience before coming back together.” Other twin flame experts, such as Dr. Amanda Noelle, generally define Twin Flames or Twin Souls as ” Twin Flames can be defined as two people who come together vibrating at identical electromagnetic frequencies as polarized counterparts of the same soul.”

An important factor to remember is that our twin flames do not make us whole; it is only when we have self actualized and understood and accepted the profound wholeness of that which we already are that we can experience a twin flame union.


Twin Flames Vs Soul Mate

So how do you know what you are encountering? What are the primary differences between twin flames and soulmates?

A Soul Mate, although many believe to be a person whom you have a romantic relationship with, may or may not be a person whom you have a romantic relationship with nor be the gender or age that you would even desire.

A Twin Flame on the other hand is someone you have a deep romantic connection with. The purpose of the the Twin Flame union is one of an ancient cause. When we are brought into this universe, we are split into two sides and during the many life times, we learn and grow until we are ready to have perfect love so that we may finally end the reincarnation process and go home with our “other” half.

The Twin Flame union is not necessarily rose petals and romance; our individual purpose much be reached and wholeness achieved by oneself alone before we can find a place in our hearts so steady that we can embrace the deep, profound passion that is ignited by interactions with our Twin Flame.

Why are we separated from our Twin Flame?

We are separated from our Twin Flame so that we can awaken to and remember who we are. For soul growth and to know ourselves. That’s what it takes: your soul needs to be happy, balanced and whole, so that your frequency is in the state that attracts your twin. As Plato put it over 2,500 years ago in the Symposium :

” … and when one of them meets the other half, the actual half of himself, the pair are lost in an amazement of love and friendship and intimacy and one will not be out of the other’s sight even for a moment…”



So why are we hearing more and more references to Twin Flame union these days? What is the 11:11 Twin Flame phenomenon occurring for so many?

The year 2012, was a gateway opening for Twin Flame love, collectively for our universe. It was a time of major energy shifts; from Patriarchal energy to the Ascension leading into the Golden Era of the Divine Feminine. The dualities- the Yin (female) and Yang (male) energies are coming to balance.

As we become aware of this Twin Flame Union, it becomes hard to deny for anyone who has experienced this type of love. It just feels right and it is beyond evident in our hearts that there is “perfect” love out there- it’s what we strive, yearn and long for deep within our souls.
