On April 4th, 2020 both Jupiter and Pluto formed a conjunction.
This is a conjunction that occurs every thirteen years, this will be the first of three conjunctions between Jupiter and Pluto for the year of 2020, creating an extended period from April through November to come to terms with the meaning that can be gathered from being at the ending and beginning of their cycle.
Jupiter formed its first conjunction with Pluto on April 4th, 2020 at 25 degrees in Capricorn with both celestial bodies stationed direct. The second conjunction will be on June 30th, 2020 at 25 degrees in Capricorn with both planets in retrograde. The third and final conjunction will occur on November 12th, 2020 at 23 degrees in Capricorn were both planets will be stationed direct.
Jupiter and Pluto are uniting in Capricorn, the sign of government, structures, and the economy, and will be under the rulership of constricting Saturn. This will potentially limit the expansive and inflating energy of Jupiter. Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn transiting through Capricorn will bring “lessons of maturity and responsibility cultivated through acceptance of natural cycles of change.”
With the first conjunction just recently passing, we are already experiencing the beginning stages of a shift and it is predicted to take another course or for there to be an important turn of events by the next conjunction in June and July. This conjunction will have us learning and integrating the lessons we are being presented with, so that by the last conjunction in November, “we will have learned how to adjust to whatever developments have coincided with being at the threshold of a new cycle between Jupiter and Pluto, and we will be able to understand more fully how to work with whatever insights and awareness we have gained.”
Before getting into extensive details about this aspect, let’s break down what each component means.
What does Jupiter represent?
Jupiter is the planet of abundance and luck. It is masculine energy and is the planetary ruler of Sagittarius and the Ninth House, the house of philosophy, travel, knowledge, and expansion.
Jupiter spends about a year in each sign, and takes about 12 years to circle the zodiac. It stations retrograde for about four months of each year.
Jupiter directs the laws that shape our society. Jupiter represents the principle of expansion as well as the aspirations of the higher self.
What does Pluto represent?
Pluto is the planet of power and transformation. It is masculine energy and is the ruler of Scorpio and the Eighth House, the house of death and rebirth, sex, finances and resources, and regeneration and transformation.
It takes Pluto between 12 and 31 years to pass through each sign and about 248 years to complete its orbit around the zodiac. It stations retrograde for about six months of each year.
This planet governs destruction, obsession, the underworld, along with crime, terrorism, and dictatorships. It rules all things that are secret and hidden from view, from viruses to government conspiracies.
What does Saturn represent?
Saturn is the planet of karma. It is masculine energy and is the planetary ruler of Capricorn and the Tenth House, the house represents career, patriarchy, government, and authority.
Saturn spends about 2-3 years in each zodiac sign and takes 28-30 years to complete its orbit of the zodiac. It stations retrograde for about four months of each year.
Saturn is associated with restriction and limitation. Where Jupiter expands, Saturn constricts. Saturn brings structure and knows the limits of time and matter. It governs boundaries, responsibilities, and commitments. Saturn makes us aware of the need for boundaries, limits, and control, on both an individual and collective level.
What is a conjunction?
A conjunction is when two celestial bodies or planets in the solar system are next to each other in the same zodiac sign and degree, the proximity then blends their energies together. These points are often planetary bodies, such as Earth, Mars, Jupiter, but can also be other celestial bodies such as Lilith, Vestas, Chiron, and more. Although the Sun and Moon are not planets, they are considered as such in astrological systems.
A conjunction can denote intensity since the energies of the two planets are united and blended into one entity, each taking on some of the characteristics of the other.
About the Jupiter-Pluto Conjunction
According to “Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Astrology” by Kris Brandt Riske, Jupiter conjunct Pluto means that a major change will occur.
On an individual level, this aspect in one’s natal chart gives an incredibly strong need to make it big in the world. It will bring many opportunities as it inspires focus and determination to succeed at what one is most passionate about, and gives the power and influence to make a big difference in life.
Someone with a natal Jupiter-Pluto conjunction may have had their life revolving around faith and spirituality, or at some point when experiencing an ultimately positive period of personal transformation.
On a collective level, Jupiter and Pluto will stir up deeper growth, digging into the roots of situations and systems to reveal and reassess what truly matters.
According to Astrology.com, “The combination of Jupiter and Pluto can incite extreme ambition for personal power, yet their transit through Capricorn along with Saturn means that we will need to adjust aspirations to contend with the limitations we face in regard to material resources and available time and space. The difficulties or crises we endure will bring us to revisit and revise what needs to be nurtured and developed—and what needs to be shed and let go.”
And speaking of crises, AstroStyle.com points out that there seems to be a connection between Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions and viral outbreaks, like the COVID-19 pandemic that we are experiencing now. “Throughout history, many of the biggest plagues and pandemics have coincided with a conjunction. These are meet-ups between global Jupiter, the planet of expansion and knowledge, and shadowy Pluto, which rules all things hidden and buried.”
Their article points out that in 1981, there was a Jupiter and Pluto conjunction in Libra—the same year the United States experienced the HIV epidemic, which spawned the AIDS crisis. “Jupiter and Pluto made their exact meet up in Libra, the sign of relationships, in October and November 1981.
Shortly after the next Jupiter-Pluto conjunction on December 2, 1994, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved an oral HIV test, the first non-blood-based antibody test for HIV. This conjunction took place in Scorpio, which rules the sexual organs. By 1995, complications from AIDS was the leading cause of death for adults 25 to 44 years old.”
Moon Omens takes it a step further and states that not only can this virus be tied to a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, but that we have been experiencing Pluto’s transit through Capricorn from 2008 and will continue until 2023, thus the rules, regulations and organizations of our planet are shifting.
“The last time we experienced the energy of Pluto in Capricorn, was 1762-1778. During those years there were distinct shifts in power. New systems and authorities were established. The world saw the American revolution, the Declaration of Independency and “The Wealth of Nations” by Adam Smith was published. This book marked the start of economics, as we know them and had an emphasis on ‘free-market forces’.
Also established in 1776 were the Illuminati…”
Moreover, the last Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn was in 2008. Was when the United States experienced the housing crisis and financial crash that had economic impacts and repercussions that are still affecting the world today.
Furthermore, Uranus is in Taurus which is leading towards new economic exchanges based on value. Uranus is the planet of innovation and change, and Taurus rules wealth, abundance, and exchange. They point out that when Uranus was in Taurus from 1934-1942 was during World War II, which was the end of the great depression. Nowadays, massive bailouts are occurring even larger than 2008. It could be that this impending economic crash could be the beginning of an end, as “we are also seeing the transformation of institutions and elite organizations thanks to Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn.”
Astrologer Patrick Wilson takes it a different direction by examining the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction throughout history and noting how it has brought about important scientific breakthroughs, like the development of telescopes and microscopes, which have facilitated the exploration of the macrocosm and the microcosm.
However, he believes that this Jupiter-Pluto conjunction should be somewhat different from previous ones because Saturn is involved and in its own sign of Capricorn.
According to him it is actually a Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto conjunction.
“If Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions typically expand the vistas of discovery and magnify things on cosmic and microcosmic scales, then the presence of Saturn suggests there will be some element of contraction, limits or boundaries on those scales. It should be a bit of a bummer in some way. Perhaps this is when we will reach an apparent limit to how far we can see into the cosmos or how far we can see into the microcosmos. A maximum resolution, a maximum magnification, a final end to a frontier of discovery. Perhaps someone will be discovering a boundary to the universe, discovering the “walls” of a cosmic prison. Maybe this is when space travel properly meets capitalism and becomes corporatized, and this will be considered some sort of beginning point for space tourism. Or perhaps it may revolve around another Saturnian concept like time, such as discovering a cosmic expiration date.”
Conclusion
Many interpretations of this conjunction are being offered, but one thing that these sources suggest is that this conjunction has seemingly brought a paradigm shift of sorts throughout history. They also agree on there being a beginning to an end. Many people have been saying and feeling that this pandemic that we are currently experiencing will change our lives as things will not be the same once it is over.
It is as if this conjunction is forcing us to reconsider the way we live, the way we act, even the way we think. About every thirteen years, Jupiter brings its intention for expansion and progress into union with the intense catharsis and empowerment of Pluto. Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions are known to create major moments of innovation and resourcefulness. Pluto governs our resources, and, together with Jupiter, it can bring an intense, devotional focus to work that breaks down and breaks through all societal conditioning and influences that we have been taught or fed.
Through the pandemic, the economic downfall, the social distancing and this astrological aspect we are being called to be more united more communal to put our powers and innovative minds together for a common solution and an end to antiquated and outdated beliefs and systems.
